A match report by Swindon Supermarine correspondent Aleck Everard

Swindon Supermarine took on local rivals Salisbury in the first game of 2023 at the Webbswood Stadium.

On a tricky surface, due to rain before the game, both sides found it hard going early doors.

The first piece of real action came on 25 minutes and saw a top class save by Marine custodian Josh Gould flying across his goalmouth to deny Brandon Goodship, after a free kick on the edge of the box. Henry Spalding went close soon after having been played in by Brad Hooper but saw his effort go wide of goal.

The rain then became torrential just before the break and the officials undertook a half time inspection before deeming it fit to continue. The rain thankfully started to abate as the second period began.

The key and deciding moment of the match arrived just ahead of the hour mark, when a slip at the back saw top scorer Harry Williams race away and set in Henry Spalding.

The former Salisbury man cut inside neatly and curled the shot low along the ground to find the net for his first league strike of the season.

The back line of Marine held firm to ensure Wiltshire bragging rights for the Swindon side thanks to top defending from Tom Sharpe, Jamie Edge and Will Tunnicliff, in particular.
