The Wildcat sessions take place once a week, on Monday evenings between 5-6pm at the 3G pitch in the Moredon Sporting Hub ground. The sessions are designed to build a solid foundation of movement skills, agility, balance, coordination, and speed. Each session starts with a team huddle welcoming any newcomers and outlining the plan for the day.

FC Abbey Meads was formed in 2003, and is the largest Football Club in Swindon with 33 teams, ranging from U7 through to adult’s football. The club, run by volunteers, is a non-profit organisation and all funds are put back into the club to support the players. There are 70 volunteer coaches and committee members who help run the club and provide high quality football coaching to the players.

Lisa Smith, Club Secretary, said: “We believe that all children should be given the opportunity to play football and recognise not all children want to participate in match play, therefore we offer a handful of sessions free of charge.”

“Our home ground is Moredon Sporting Hub at Cheney Manor. We were granted partnership status by the Football Foundation to play matches on the amazing 4G pitch.”

The club also offer the following sessions.

Mini Meads: 4–6-year-old. A fun introduction session to football.

Wildcats: A girls only sessions for girls aged 5-11.

Comets - A session for children with learning disabilities aged between 8–12-year-olds.

Children can also join any the teams on a training only basis for a reduced monthly fee, should they choose not to participate in match play.

Lisa said: “We offer football camps in the school holiday, in association with Aaron Oakley, who use to play for Swindon Town FC, and we offer goal keeping training for our players with Will Henry, current goal keeper for Chippenham Town FC.

“Following the success of our U15 girls being crowned Wiltshire FA County cup champions in the 23/24 season, we hope our U13 girls will follow in their footsteps and will be playing in the Wiltshire County Cup this coming weekend (8 Feb)”.
