Councillors at Stratton St Margaret Parish Council made a commitment to drive an initiative to make Stratton dementia friendly.

This will start with councillors and staff from the Parish Council attending Dementia Friends Information Sessions which started from Thursday 1 February. These sessions will give all who attend a good understanding of what dementia is and learn more about how it can affect someone.

The Parish Council is looking to engage with the local community working with our partners including local health professionals and care providers. There are also plans to engage with local businesses to raise awareness and offer support.

It is also hoped that Stratton will become a part of the Safe Places Scheme which helps vulnerable people if they feel scared or at risk while they are out and about in the community get the support they need right away.

Several councillors volunteered to form a steering group to progress dementia awareness in Stratton and looking ahead the Parish Council is hoping to host the Alzheimer’s Society roadshow bus at their Stratton Festival summer festival taking place on 7 July 2018.
