Thamesdown’s Alex Chutter has been putting his best foot forward in aid of charity.
The general manager of Swindon’s bus company completed the London Marathon, raising much-needed funds for cancer charity Bloodwise.
“I left the bus at home and decided to run the 26.2 miles instead, and my incentive was very close to home,” said Alex. “In 2015, my uncle Tony was diagnosed with blood cancer, a very rare form of non Hodgkin’s Lymphoma called Mantle Cell Lymphoma. He underwent gruelling treatment and a stem cell transplant.
“Thankfully, now he is back to his old self - embracing life to the full and constantly taking on new challenges. He is a keen sportsman himself, having completed a number of marathons - recording an impressive personal best of 2 hours 32 minutes.
“My brother Lewis and I decided it was time for us to take the reigns - and couldn’t think of a better cause than Bloodwise.”
Bloodwise finds world-class research into all types of cancer. Its mission is to stop people dying from the condition, making patients’ lives better and looking for ways to stop blood cancer happening in the first place.
“This is a vital resource helping so many people in Wiltshire and across the UK, and we’re delighted that we’ve been able to raise more than £3,000 for it so far,” added Alex. “It was a gruelling challenge, but worth every aching muscle. Lewis and I would like to thank everyone who has supported us with encouragement and donations. It all makes a difference.”
