People of all ages will have a chance to explore Swindon’s arts and heritage for free on Saturday 14 and Sunday 15 October.

The Celebrate Swindon weekend will see organisations across the town throwing open their doors, offering inclusive workshops and hosting exhibitions.

The two days of activity include something for every age, ability and experience as well as British Sign Language support for deaf participants.

On Saturday 14 October there are drama workshops, paper craft activities and a treasure hint at the Wyvern Theatre while Swindon Museum and Art Gallery is the base for animation and craft drop in sessions.

The Brunel Centre will be home to musicians encouraging the public to try various instruments.

On Sunday 15 October the Railway Cottage Museum will be open with young performers in Victorian costume while the Central Library welcomes everyone to try accessible visual arts.

On the same day, children under 16 will have special free access to Steam railway museum and Lydiard House throws open its doors to all. A special guided tour of Lydiard House and the neighbouring St. Mary’s Church will take place with BSL interpretation in the afternoon.

The Richard Jefferies Museum invites people to take part in a traditional Apple Day across the whole weekend.

Celebrate Swindon is funded by the Big Lottery Fund with support from the Arts Council and Swindon Borough Council. Prime Theatre secured £10,000 to launch the weekend and Prime’s Young Artist, Carli Green, 20, has organised the activities.

Carli said: “This is a once in a lifetime chance for everyone to celebrate Swindon’s art and history.”

“You can forget how much money or experience you have, come and join in with your friends, family or on your own! Enjoy the chance to explore places and activities that are new to you.”

Leaflets and posters are available in all Swindon schools as well as locations across the town.
