Swindon continues the fight against consumer waste with repair café

The Eastcott Community Organisation will be hosting another Repair Café where DIY inclined residents can trade skills in a bid to tackle unnecessary waste of fixable items.

From Reading and London, repair cafés are popping up across the UK as communities come together to save the environment from consumer waste. Swindon has now joined the movement - the Eastcott Community Organisation will be hosting the next Repair Café Sunday 6 May.

Dave Foster, who brought the Repair Café initiative to Swindon, said: “There will be a café serving hot drinks and cakes as well as live music. "Everyone is welcome so do come along. Whether you’re a regular or new to the whole scene you’ll be sure to find a warm welcome whilst showing support for your local community, as well as doing your bit for the planet." Residents are invited to bring along faulty household items from gardening equipment and a faulty laptop, to hair straighteners and door hinges. Volunteers and traders will be on hand to offer their skills and and knowledge to show faulty fixtures don't necessarily need to go to the dump. As well as live entertainment, local green-fingered group Incredible Edible Network will also be in attendance. As part of an initiative to encourage residents to grow their own food and promote healthy eating, the group will be hosting one of their Seedling Swap events. The Repair Café, free shop, and Seedling Swap will take place Sunday 6 May at the Savernake Social Hall, Savernake Street, Swindon, SN1 3LZ, from 2pm to 5pm.
