Swindon Cricket Club have announced the appointment of ex-England international cricketer Phil DeFreitas as club head coach for the next three years.
Phil has enjoyed a long and prolific career in the game, playing for England at the highest level. Club Chairman, Tom Foreman is thrilled with such a coup for the club and said: “I’m excited about the benefit this signing can have for both current, prospective and future players in the Swindon area.
“We plan to deliver success on and off the cricket field in a manner that matches the history and former pedigree of the club. The signing of a head coach with Phil’s calibre and experience represents a key milestone within the club’s ambitious five year plan.
“We are forging a new relationship aimed at delivering a long lasting legacy for Swindon Cricket Club, its members and the local sporting community. I’d like to take this opportunity to thank our fantastic sponsors Excalibur Communications, Deacon & Son Jewellers and David M Coe Financial Planning, whose support has made this signing a reality.”
As head coach, Phil will be working closely with the existing team of England Cricket Board qualified coaches, in order to help players of all ages and abilities to develop. This includes youth teams, ladies teams and adult senior teams.
As head coach Phil’s first coaching sessions will be delivered across the age ranges through fun, but structured, indoor sessions at the Croft Sports Centre.
Following this Phil will continue to lead coaching sessions when outdoor training begins in April. These sessions will take place at the club ground, which is located next to the County Ground, home of Swindon Town Football Club, utilising the club facilities which have been heavily invested in over recent years.
The signing of Phil DeFreitas as head coach, it is hoped, will help enable Swindon Cricket Club to develop cricketers of all ages, helping to ensure the future strength of cricket at the club and in the local area.
