A new survey has revealed that Swindon is one of the best places to work in the country - beating stiff competition from Oxford, Bristol and Manchester.

Carried out by recruitment business Glassdoor, the survey places Swindon at number 10 in its top 20 list of best places to work in 2016. Swindon was awarded an impressive Glassdoor Job Score of 3.6 with a median salary of £35,525 with strong job offerings for sales reps, store managers and civil engineers. This compares with Bristol who secured the number 14 spot with a Glassdoor score of 3.5, and Oxford at number 17 with a score of 3.4. Both Oxford and Bristol had a median salary of £32,000. Manchester came in at number 11. But Reading came in seventh, three places above Swindon, with a score of 3.7 and a median salary of £43,000. The top spot was taken by Cambridge with a score of 4.1. London did not even get into the top 20. Glassdoor's scoring system is determined by three factors: hiring opportunity, cost of living and overall job satisfaction. The report also included each city and town’s median pay for employees, current average home value, population and number of current job openings. See the full list below.
