The Swindon Place Board, the private sector-led body that is driving the Switch On To Swindon campaign, has appointed Jenny Groves, Director of Branch and Property Transformation at Nationwide, as its new chair.

The Place Board was established at the formal launch of the Switch On To Swindon campaign on 24 January, when more than 400 business people and community representatives met to sign up to the start of a new approach to highlight locally and nationally that Swindon is a great place to live, work, invest in and visit.

Switch On To Swindon is driven by local businesses and community groups to support and deliver the changes they want to see. The campaign is based on similar initiatives from across the country that have already brought in significant investment for their regions, including Doncaster and Coventry.

Jenny Groves graduated from Queen’s University, Belfast with a degree in Computer Science and Statistics and Operational Research and joined Nationwide as an IT graduate 30 years ago. Her roles there have included organising information technology, customer relations and running the building society’s national cashpoint network.

Jenny lives in Old Town and is married to Rob. They have two children who have both attended The Commonweal School. In her spare time Jenny is a keen skier, and enjoys cooking and travelling. Jenny is due to leave Nationwide in March 2017 and is looking forward to taking on the new role of chair of the Swindon Place Board.

Switch On To Swindon was spearheaded by Nicky Alberry, Chair of Influence, which has now evolved into the Place Board.

Jenny said: “Since the Switch on to Swindon campaign began to take shape I’ve learned more about Swindon’s fantastic economic attributes and achievements than in all the 28 years I’ve lived in Swindon.

“Over the past 30 years I’ve acquired a range of skills at senior level and I feel very excited indeed to be able to contribute to the fantastic developing story of Switch On To Swindon. We are starting from a great base line, with some excellent messages to broadcast on the national stage, and it’s jaw-dropping how much energy there is that we can tap into now. I’m looking forward to getting started in this very important role and working with a very strong board to put Swindon up there where it truly belongs.

“Now the time has come for every business, whatever the size, to sign up to supporting Swindon as a great place to work, live, do business in, relocate to, and where ideas and innovation thrive.”

Switch On To Swindon is looking for Ambassadors from all ranges of business and community organisations to join the campaign to show people inside and outside of Swindon what the town has to offer.
