A 19-year-old Swindon man has been sentenced after admitting to supplying Class A drugs in the town.

Lei Smart of no fixed address was arrested on suspicion of supplying the drugs when officers noticed him acting suspiciously with two other males and a female in the town centre during the afternoon of Tuesday 19 November 2019.

Officers followed the group to The Savoy pub on Regent Street where they searched and arrested Lei Smart and a 17-year-old local girl.

Smart was later charged with possession with intent to supply crack cocaine and heroin.

The 17-year-old girl has been released under investigation.

Today at Swindon Crown Court, he pleaded guilty and was given a 14-months jail sentence suspended for two years, 200 hours voluntary work, 20 days in a rehabilitation centre and a place on a Think Skills Programme to help with behavioural difficulties.

Det Sgt Georgina Green from the Dedicated Crime Team said:  "The work carried out by officers to apprehend Lei Smart and stop potential drug dealing is indicative of how seriously we take the issue of drugs in Swindon and Wiltshire.
"The message is, if you risk dealing drugs in our county be prepared to be caught and face the possibility of a custodial sentence.
“We completely understand the negative impact illegal drugs can have on a community and we will always take reports seriously.”
