Care Home Volunteers launches new service to assist Swindon's elderly living in care.

The Chippenham-based charity was set up in 2013 and aims to provide care and support for residents living in care homes. The service has now become available in Swindon, and weekly drop-in sessions are now available for people interested in volunteering.

After the success of their first information session, Care Home Volunteers will be holding another drop-in session Wednesday 28 March from 10.30am to 3pm at Swindon's Central Library.

Jeni Burchell, Swindon Volunteer Coordinator, said: "This is such an innovative and important service, that works closely with local care homes to enhance and compliment the care that is already provided. We have seen from our projects in Salisbury and Chippenham the fantastic difference that our volunteers make, particularly where residents don't have friends or family nearby.

"The service creates an enjoyable and fulfilling experience for both the volunteer and older person being visited."

Sarah, Care Home Volunteers volunteer, Salisbury said: "Volunteering is absolutely rewarding. I just spend one morning a week, but I come away always feeling fulfilled."
