A recruitment day for nurses interested in working with children at the Great Western Hospital in Swindon takes place this weekend.

New and experienced nurses coming along between 9.30am and 3pm on Saturday 18 November will be able to tour the Children’s Unit and Special Care Baby Unit at the Swindon hospital and chat with staff already working there.

Those keen to join the team can even sit an interview on the day for one of the many exciting positions available.

Student nurses expecting to qualify in 2018 are encouraged to attend as it could mean getting a head-start on finding employment ahead of next summer.

This upcoming recruitment day is the second time in 2017 that Great Western Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust has opened the doors of its children’s areas to potential nurses.

A similar event was held in June, with around 50 per cent of attendants taking on permanent roles across the two wards.

Ashley Oakshott, Head of Recruitment, said: “Our youngest patients are among the most colourful characters in the hospital and we’re looking for nurses who are just as unique as they are.

“Looking after children is incredibly rewarding and it’s a real bonus for any nurses joining us to be able to carry out their profession in an environment that is truly state-of-the-art.

“This is a wonderful opportunity for nurses young and old, qualified and still-in-study to take the first steps towards forging a dynamic career in an area that is bursting with colour, energy and personality.”
Based on the second floor of the Great Western Hospital, the Children’s Unit is a modern, 20-bed ward with fun at its centre, where young people up to the age of 18 can receive safe care and treatment.
Further along the corridor is the Special Care Baby Unit – often referred to as ‘scaboo’ – and the place where the hospital’s newest arrivals receive the round-the-clock care they need to overcome what can often be a difficult start to life.
Staff on SCBU recently made headlines for being the first in the region to use the My Baby Diary App to help keep parents in touch with their little ones when they are away from hospital.
Although interviews will take place on the day, nurses who would like to be considered are encouraged to apply online using the NHS Jobs website.
