Swindon Borough Council is announcing the results of a competition designed to attract articles from young people suitable for inclusion in the new SBC web site: thedockswindon.co.uk.

A first cash prize of £200 donated by the PCC for Swindon and Wiltshire is just one of several prizes to be announced.

15 entries were received and over 60 young people with their families will be attending the Ceremony to hear the winners announced.

23 year old Grace Wiles, a member of the SBC focus group overseeing the new web site, said: “We have been looking for a way of helping lots of young people in Swindon overcome issues which affect them, but in a way they can access using their iphones, ipads or laptops from the safety of their own home, and at all times of the day or night. This new web site is brilliant for that, and also helps them ask for advice using the I Want Advice tab”.

“I decided to enter the competition by writing about my story of coming out, which I did when I was 18. My Mum said that she loved me for who I am, not a label. By entering the competition I want more young people to share my story”.

Other prizes are also to be announced, including five free places on the mass media summer courses being run by CREATE studios who were instrumental in the development stage of the Dock, and who contributed funding to help with the design and implementation of the material contained within it.

Order of Events:

  • Welcome and Opening Remarks from the Mayor of Swindon
  • Putting the Dock in context: John Gilbert, Chief Executive Officer
  • Announcement of winners in 7 categories: Angus McPherson PCC
  • All entires to receive a special mention and Certificate: Cllr Fionuala Foley, Swindon Borough Council’s cabinet member for children’s services
