Two days of great seasonal shopping with entertainment at Steam, Swindon: 3 & 4 December

The sights and sounds of Christmas will fill STEAM Museum when the permanent exhibition area is transformed into a wonderland of fun.

The annual Christmas at STEAM on Saturday 3 and Sunday 4 December, 10am and 5pm on both days, is one the top Christmas markets in the region, with quality gift and craft items for sale - from silver jewellery and photographic prints, to wooden toys and games plus luxury confectionery.

The heart-warming sounds of the Swindon Kentwood Show Choir will welcome visitors, alongside Swindon Pegasus Brass (including the youth section), the Swindon Male Voice Choir, the Wiltshire Saxophone Choir and the Merribels. Performances will be on stage inside the STEAM’s Great Western Hall which will also be the venue of Christmas Café offering hot refreshments.

Santa’s Storytime takes place in the Museum’s Hawksworth Hall where a beautifully decorated tree will glow with Christmas hope, and there will be a fireplace and festive lighting, Christmas stories and sing-a-longs. There is an extra charge for these sessions that last around 20 minutes and you need to pay and book ahead at reception. The sessions run every half an hour and include a wrapped gift.

Christmas at STEAM is a fun day out for all ages as it includes full access to the main exhibition area which includes famous GWR locomotives No. 6000 King George V, No. 3717 City of Truro and No. 4073 Caerphilly Castle among many other magnificent engines.

For the very cheerfully discounted price of £1 for children (aged 15 and under) and £3 for adults, visitors get to browse more than 50 artisan market stalls will be set up within the full atmospherics of steam trains, choir music and Christmas lights.
