Police are appealing for witnesses following two assaults which occurred in Eldene, Swindon.

The incidents happened between 6pm and 8pm on Wednesday, January 8.

During the first incident, which occurred at approximately 6.30pm, a 35-year-old man was walking in the Stubsmead area when he was approached by a group of people who surrounded him and struck him across the head with an unknown object.

The victim fell to the floor and sustained bruising and swelling to his head. He managed to get up and walked home.

A short while later, at approximately 7.30pm, a 41-year-old man was walking in the same area when he was approached by a group who again surrounded him and used a multi tool style item to cause lacerations to his arm, stomach and hands. Fortunately, the injuries sustained were superficial and no medical treatment was required.

Investigating Officer Katey Baker said: “It is extremely fortunate that these incidents didn’t result in more serious injuries, however, both victims were left feeling understandably distressed and frightened.

“I appreciate the concern for local residents when incidents like this take place. As a result, we have increased patrols in the area since the incidents and these patrols are continuing regularly, so please do not be alarmed if you see an increased police presence in the area.

“I’d urge anyone with information about either of these incidents to get in touch. If you have seen or heard anything you think may be relevant, no matter how small you think it might be, please make contact with myself by calling 101.”
