Wiltshire Police is appealing for any witnesses to a burglary last week at a house on Ermin Street, Stratton.

The break-in took place just after 7am on Thursday 15 June.

An unknown offender managed to get through an upstairs window and entered the bedroom of an elderly man who woke to find the suspect going through his clothes at the foot of his bed.

When he was challenged by the victim, the suspect ran downstairs still holding the clothing.  The victim gave chase but the offender made a threatening gesture to him before leaving.

A quantity of cash within the clothing that was stolen.

The suspect is described as a white man, aged approximately 20-25, of slim build and athletic looking, approximately 5’10” tall, with short, cropped dark hair, clean shaven; he was wearing dark clothing.  He was seen leaving the scene on a dark coloured mountain bike.

Investigating officer, PC Chris Hughes said:  “Due to the brazen actions of the suspect, by climbing through an upstairs window and having gone to great lengths to get up there, we are asking members of the public who may have seen this man to contact us.  Also, anyone who saw him leave the area on a bicycle in the direction of Swindon Road.

"He left down a busy main road, just as the morning commute was beginning, so hopefully someone saw him.

"We are also reminding members of the public to secure their properties, even when they are at home, especially during the warm summer months when windows and doors are left open.”

If anyone has any information regarding this matter, please call 101 and speak to PC Chris Hughes or call Crimestoppers 0800 555 111 anonymously.
