Police are appealing for witnesses to an incident in Swindon last week which involved two cyclists being hit by a car.

Officers were called to Welcombe Avenue at approximately 5pm on December 9 following reports of two separate collisions involving two cyclists in the area.

During the first incident, a 19-year-old man suffered an arm injury after being hit by a car as he was cycling along Helston Road toward Kingswood Road.

A 12-year-old boy was also hit as he was cycling along Welcombe Avenue. He was then approached by the driver of the vehicle who assaulted him, causing him an injury to his leg.

The offender then drove off.

Fortunately, neither of the victims suffered serious injuries.

Officers conducted a number of enquiries and arrested a 24-year-old local man later that evening on suspicion of attempted GBH with intent x 2, dangerous driving, driving a vehicle and failing to stop after a road accident.

A black Mercedes has been seized as part of our enquiries and the man has since been released under investigation.

Investigating Officer Det Con Stephanie England said: “This incident will understandably cause some concern within the community, however, please be reassured that we are conducting an extremely thorough and detailed investigation.

“We have already been in contact with a number of witnesses, but if anyone has any information and hasn’t yet spoken to police, then please call Swindon CID on 101, quoting crime reference 54190121964. Alternatively you can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.”
