The public information meeting held on 7th Apri
about the new Leisure centre was attended by on
50 people. There must be over 10,000 adults liv
ing in West Swindon. I can't understand why ju
a few more did not turn up. Nearly 5,000 Links
were distributed in the area and a whole back
page was given over to publicising the Leisure
Centre and the meeting. There were two stories
in the Advertiser in the week before the meetin
and a piece in the Messenger on the day. I went
round and put posters up in Freshbrook, Toothil
shops and Carrefour. But. ..what happened?
There have been accusations of apathy amongst
residents which I do not accept. The best ex-
planation I've heard so far is that everybody
knows about the Leisure Centre from press repor
its an asset to the area and because its was al
agreed upon, there was no need to go to a meeti
Perhaps somebody could give me other reasons.
WHAT ABOUT THE FUTURE USE?
All is GO on the Leisure Centre. It will be rea
in 12 years time and Now is the time to organis
ice hockey teams, swimming clubs, dance and art
groups and in fact just about anything you care
to think of. The Link is here to publicise you
ideas to other residents in West Swindon, so us
it. I think some people read it.
