Shops plan poses school security worries
One hundred people attended a
public meeting organised by Hay-
don Wick Parish Council at the
Haydon Centre on 10 July, to dis-
cuss objections to a controversial
proposal by Wiltshire County
Council to develop a supermarket
and shops on land between Hay-
don Leigh School and Westfield
Way.
The scheme to be considered by
Thamesdown Council's planning
committee on 6 August shows the
access road adjacent to the school
playing field.
Headteacher Jon Swaffield said
the school's governors were wor-
ried about noise and air pollution.
"The plans show the delivery turn-
ing head within 5 metres of the
school and only 11 metres from
children in the classroom."
He said the school would be full
in 18 months and mobiles would
have to be located next to the ac-
cess road. Further expansion Haydon Wick parish councillors review how small the site is. From left, John Keepin, Maria Chivers, Brian Long,
