Mayor shows off the family silver to playgroup

Swindon's Mayor coun. Maurice Fanning brought his accoutrements
of office to the Link and Learn Playgroup in March to complete their
project on different occupations.
The children had been visited by a dentist, a fire fighter, a postman
and a policeman.
To everybody's surprise the Mayoral robes, lace ruffle and chain
were brought out and placed on playgroup committee vice chair Dawn
Dolphin. The children then had the chance to measure themselves
against the Borough's ceremonial mace.
"It was a great visit," said Dawn. "The children were fascinated by
seeing the mayoral dress. The robes are amazingly heavy."
• There is no truth in the rumour that the Link and Lean Playgroup may
have to close one day a week as a result of proposals to save money by
closing the Link Centre at off-peak times. Head of Swindon Council's
Leisure Services John Fisher said the playgroup should be assured that
the Link Centre will not close if there is a need for it to be open.
