Take off at Tawny Owl
Swindon's latest pub, The Tawny Owl on Queen Elizabeth Drive, has more than taken off, it's almost in outer space according to landlords
Phillip and Louise Britton.
and restaurant, the new pub has
five letting rooms, including a fam-
ily/disabled room, and a function
room which can cater for up to 75
people, called the Parliament Room.
At the opening ceremony com-
pany managing director James
Arkell said, "North Swindon still
has to accommodate over 5,000
new homes and a family pub is an
essential part of bringing life to the
growing communities which is
why we invested so much time in
the project and involved as many
people as we could.
"As one of Swindon's oldest
companies, the opening of The
Tawny Owl is a fantastic way to
celebrate our 160th anniversary;
we're proud that Arkell's Brewery
is part of the fabric of Swindon."
The Link first revealed in Octo-
ber 2001 that developers had plans
to build flats on the site, claiming
that there had been no interest from
brewers in buying the site for a
pub. In his opening speech Mr
Arkell praised the magazine for
the publicity. "The Link has not
only kept the local community in-
formed from the beginning about
what we have been doing, it has
provided unstinting support for
The Tawny Owl project."
