                                                            Although funding was agreed in 2000 the long awaited project was
                                                          only started at the end of the summer holidays and was not ready by the
                                                          beginning of term as promised. Whilst curb build outs were installed,
                                                          construction of two speed humps on either side of the school entrance was
                                                          suspended following objections by residents who claimed the plans were
                                                          not the same as displayed at a consultation meeting in January.
                                                           The cabinet were due to discuss a petition against the humps and a
                                                          formal objection under the Highways Act. If the humps go ahead the
                                                          area will become a 20mph zone. If the project is not completed as
                                                          proposed, Langstone Way will remain a 30mph road and the council
                                                          will have to spend just as much money to provide street lighting to the
                                                          required standard to illuminate the curb build outs.
                                                           Road safety campaigner parent Dawn Dolphin said Westlea children
