John Monniott, chairman of the Swindon Civic Trust, recruiting in front of one of Swindon's less impressive sights
The Swindon Civic Trust was formed in 2002. It joined Swindon Civic Trust encourages
some 900 similar societies across the country - all all people to participate
affiliated to the national, parent organisation the in determining the future of their town.
'Civic Trust'. Since 1951 this national body has been
working to improve the local places where people live.
The Swindon Civic Trust was formed in response to a
long-standing sense of local dissatisfaction with the
system of planning for Swindon, which has neither
responded to local people's needs, nor yet realised the
town's full potential.
Experience from other parts of the country and from
abroad shows that a thoughtful and co-ordinated
community organisation such as a local Civic Trust can
have a positive influence on the way a place develops
- to the benefit of all.
