Enjoy the magic of Christmas
at Lydiard House
From Saturday 5 to Wednesday 23 December, you can get a glimpse of
how the Victorians celebrated the festive season when Lydiard House will
be decked out in traditional festive greenery and decorations to create
the intimate atmosphere of a 19th Century family Christmas.
Decorations will be typical of the style of elegant, yet festive displays
that the Lady of the Manor at Lydiard Park would have enjoyed creating
to impress family and friends. There will be real trees in the hall, library
and bedroom, beautifully decorated with candles, ribbons, traditional
baubles and handcrafted decorations.
The dining table will be laid out with a lavish Christmas meal, includ-
ing roast beef and plum pudding, popular in the late Victorian period and
based on old menus belonging to the Bolingbroke family of Lydiard Park.
A new seasonal quiz trail gives children the chance to hunt down
