             After several setbacks Mandy Martin and Val Phillips, members of
             Swindon Twin Peaks walking group, made it to New York to take

             though Mandy had two operations in the intervening months, and Val
             suffered a back injury three weeks before leaving for New York, they
             were not going to be put off.
              Val, from Peatmoor, said, “we had been planning the marathon for
