Former pupil helps new generation of media hopefuls
Primary school pupils received the red carpet treatment at a ceremony at the end of September when the winners of a short animation film
competition were awarded with Swindon Oscars.
The soundtrack on the entry from Brook Field Primary impressed
judges so much that a special category was created to reward them.
The group had been given an insight into putting together a video with
the help of former pupil Kylie Stanton who is studying film production
technology at Staffordshire University.
The brief was to create a 30 second animation, but the ideas flowed
and the animation called Funkybonez, based on the book Funnybones,
ended up three times longer.
“Ninety seconds is quite short really, but we had to take about 250
shots; it took us three days to make,” said team member Harry Apps.
Teacher Rachel Bartlett said the group members acquired a wide range
of skills. “They worked hard to learn the techniques of film making,
developing story telling and IT skills, as well as working as a team to
turn their ideas into words and then into a video. It was very impressive
what they achieved.”
At the awards ceremony held at Steam, Kylie Stanton, with Ella Peters,
