Freshbrook Community Centre closed after 25 years
As The Link went to press news broke that Swindon Council had shut Freshbrook Community Centre after
the Charity Commission removed the charitable status of the association which managed the building.
A spokesman for the council said there was no longer a legal entity responsible for the building and that user
groups might be accommodated in the community facilities at the new Millbrook Primary School next door.
Bar manager Jill Stapleton, who was featured in the September Link for her 25 years behind the pumps
since the building open in 1984, said, “it’s a very sad way to lose a job.”
Freshbrook councillor Mick Bray said, “the centre is an important gathering place for many groups like the
