The local and national press have reported widely on the public/pri-
vate sector venture between Digital City UK and Swindon Borough
Council to make Swindon the first town in the UK to provide free
internet access for all its residents.
Whilst the focus has been on
describing this as an exciting tech-
nological revolution, there have
also been concerns expressed about
the financial collaboration in fund-
ing this venture, and the technical
difficulties of the project, putting
it behind its completion timetable.
There has never been any doubt
however that the intention of this
scheme is to create an ‘electro-mesh’
covering all the people of Swindon.
