Plan now for a
brighter Christmas
(2010)
How did you pay for Christmas
just passed? Did you raid the
penny jar, did you join a Christmas
club, or do you find yourself start-
ing the new year with an overdraft
and credit card bills?
Christmas doesn’t come cheap
but by joining one of Swindon’s two
Credit Unions now, you could be in
a better position this time next year.
Start saving £10 per week and
you would have £400 in your Credit
Union Share Account by the middle
of November 2010.
Then you could take out a loan of
up to £800 to help you through the
Christmas period which you would
pay off in 2011 at a rate of only 1 per
cent interest on the reducing balance
which is far lower than any other
form of borrowing.
By the middle of November 2011,
if needs be, you will be ready to
take out your next Christmas loan.
And all the time your £400 sav-
ings remain in your share account
and you can continue to add to
those savings on a regular basis.
The Credit Union will also pay a
dividend on your saving. In 2009 it
was 3.5 per cent of savings.
Money can be deposited into your
credit union account with cash or by
setting up a standing order direct
from your bank.
Anyone living or working in
Swindon can join. Two forms of
ID - a passport or driving licence
- and a recent household bill are
needed to join.
