After a year in a temporary build-
ing with only reception and Year 1
children, Oakhurst Primary School
opened in superb two storey per-
manent accommodation on Pioneer
Way, North Swindon.
Children are now accepted in all
year groups as well as a 52 place
nursery. In October new children
were joining daily, with six starting
on one day alone.
Oakhurst is one of a 1,000
schools around the world to imple-
ment the International Primary Cur-
riculum and every class is named
after a major city on the planet.

Left, East Wichelstowe Primary School opened in temporary buildings at Croft
Sports Centre,Old Town to cater for children from the Wichelstowe development and
also youngsters from Wroughton and Old Town where demand for places is high.
The eleven children each received their own named cupcake to mark the opening
conducted on 8 October by Swindon deputy mayor Ray Ballman and children’s author
Neil Griffiths, pictured with from left, Sarah Treadway, teaching assistant Suzanne
Higham, executive headteacher Sue Marshall and Clare Davies, deputy head.
The school will move into permanent buildings in September 2011.
