Swindon CAB and Macmillan
work in partnership
When somebody is diagnosed with cancer, money may not be the fi rst
thing that comes to mind, but fi nancial worries can quickly become
apparent.
To provide specialist advice Macmillan Cancer Support and the Swindon
Citizens Advice Bureau are working together to provide advice on what
benefi ts and tax credits are available and how to apply for them, how to
claim for housing and fuel cost assistance and health related costs such
as travel to hospital for treatment.
They also advise on other problems such as debt, employment or
housing.

Celebrating Swindon’s special people
The third Mayor’s Pride of Swindon awards on 7 April recognised the
unsung heroes of the town when 46 individuals and 12 groups were
presented with certifi cates in recognition of their commitment to a wide
range of community organisations and to individuals across the town.
Seventeen people and three groups were selected for their outstanding Improving Outcomes for Disabled Children
effort and received the Pride of Swindon lapel badge, bearing the image
of Isambard Kingdom Brunel.
The mayor, Rex Barnett, unable to attend as he was convalescing after
an operation, sent a message of support saying, “It is people like you who
make Swindon such a great community to live in and people like you Home & Away is our family-based scheme
