Totally green and active prize for North Swindon primary
In June Oakhurst Primary School’s Tranquillity Garden was declared the regional winner of the Totally Active category in the Young People’s Trust
for the Environment Total Green School Awards.
The garden features a series of Peace Poles, produced by each class during
their October Peace Week last year, and depicts the hand prints of every
pupil in the school.
Original ideas for the garden were submitted by children and Paul Wa- Jill Blackwood
termeyer Landscapes in association with Grassroots Landscaping developed
them into a beautiful garden which won the school £500 and a certificate to
mark the achievement.
Expressing his delight with the garden, headteacher Dale Burr said: “I am
extremely pleased. The judges were impressed by the whole school approach
in creating the peace poles.
“We’ve used the prize money to enhance the garden by purchasing a bench,
some wind chimes, bird-feeders and a pair of binoculars for bird-watching.”
