Wiltshire Police are holding its first ever domestic abuse surgery via Facebook.

Between 1pm and 3pm today, Wiltshire Police together with partner agencies will be holding a domestic abuse surgery on the Wiltshire Police Facebook page.

It's aimed at anyone who has concerns about domestic abuse in their own household or someone else's.

From 1pm onwards, people will be invited to post a question directly on the public Facebook page or by private message through Facebook Messenger if they prefer to remain anonymous.

Det Supt Ben Mant, Head of Wiltshire Police's Public Protection Department, said:
"Questions from anyone are welcome, whether you are, or think you may be a victim of domestic abuse or you are worried about a friend, neighbour, family member or colleague and would like some advice, we are here to help you so please send your questions in.
"This is one of the many ways we offer people seeking help, advice or perhaps just some reassurance.
"Please note that this does not replace the usual reporting channels of calling 999 in an emergency or 101."

Angus Macpherson, Police and Crime Commissioner for Wiltshire and Swindon, said: "I'm really pleased to hear about this new idea.
"Sadly, the whole topic of domestic abuse never goes away, which is why I support any initiative to not only promote the issues surrounding domestic abuse but also offer people different ways they can get in touch with the police and partners.
"We live in a modern world where technology like social media can be used for good and this is a wonderful example of that.
"If you know someone who could benefit from having a chat to us then please let them know."
