Back in February 2020, Swindon Museum and Art Gallery invited entries to its first Open Photography Exhibition and now the winning photos have been selected.
Over 70 entries were received and the panel of judges, including guest judge, Photographer and Graphic Designer Chris Waddell, spent a whole day making their selection.
This exhibition was an opportunity for photographers to demonstrate and showcase their photographic skills, creative vision and exhibit their work in a gallery environment.
Thirty-five pieces were selected for the exhibition and were hung ready for the exhibition to open on Tuesday, 17 March 2020. Unfortunately, due to the covid-19 pandemic, the Museum and Art Gallery had to close its doors the day after the exhibition opened.
The pandemic meant that businesses and organisations had to think creatively about how to promote and deliver their services, and the staff at Swindon Museum and Art Gallery ensured that the wonderful photographs were seen and enjoyed by a whole new audience.
In April 2020, the Museum and Art Gallery ran its first virtual exhibition, a unique way to view the works, find out about the photographers and to have the opportunity to purchase the work.
From Saturday, 4 April, and over 35 days, one work a day was posted for all to view on Facebook and Instagram.
Swindon Museum and Art Gallery is pleased to announce the three Choice Awards from the exhibition are:
- Friends of Swindon MAG Choice Award winner - ‘C2036’, by Mark Somerville
- Oink Gallery Choice Award winner- ‘Drag’, by MKD
- icanFRAME Choice Award winner- ‘Tsukiji’ by Richard Maidment
Swindon Museum and Art Gallery’s 'Art on Tour' project continues to organise engaging displays in venues and public spaces throughout the town and online, alongside a vibrant learning programme within Swindon schools.
