Wroughton and Wichelstowe Parish Council have welcomed a brand-new set of councillors following this year’s parish elections.
At a meeting of the Full Council on Monday 18 May, all 15 parish councillors formally signed their Acceptance of Office and renewed their commitment to delivering cleaner streets, safer neighbourhoods, thriving green spaces and stronger local services for residents, while working to protect Wroughton from further unnecessary development and improving existing amenities.
Cllr John Hewer was re-elected as Chair of the Council, with Cllr Diane Archer named as Vice Chair.
Cllr Holly Woodward will continue in the role of Chair of the Planning and Highways Committee and Cllr Lisa Campisano is the new Chair of the Community Assets and Open Spaces Committee.
Cllr John Hewer said: “I’m delighted to have been named as Chair of Council, and I would like to take this opportunity to thank the residents of the parish for putting their faith in this brilliant set of local councillors.
“Local democracy is at its best when passionate people step forward to serve their communities. I’m incredibly excited to be working with this new group of councillors and I look forward to delivering real results for residents of the parish.”
Wroughton and Wichelstowe Parish Council is proudly non-political, enabling councillors to put residents’ interests before party politics.
Over the coming weeks and months, the parish council will be involved in delivering a number of important local projects such as the new state-of-the-art Wichelstowe Sports Hub, new children’s play parks and outdoor gym equipment, ensuring life-saving defibrillators are available across the parish, improving road safety at notorious speeding hotspots, working with key organisations to reduce flooding in problematic areas and many other things.
The parish council will also be putting significant resources into protecting our green spaces, fighting unwanted developments, preserving the unique character and heritage of the village and its surrounding area, working to protect its allotment site and renewing the previous Neighbourhood Plan.
A community survey will be delivered to residents’ doors this summer, and we encourage everyone to take part to ensure the new parish councillors can work towards what residents want and need for the community.
