Swindon Borough Council have advised residents to think sustainably before disposing of large household items such as furniture, electricals and white goods.

If you have bulky items you no longer need, the council recommends that people consider donating them to local charities or passing items on through community platforms like Freecycle or Facebook Marketplace.

A spokesperson said: “For items that can’t be reused, we offer a paid bulky waste collection service. Collections are made from the front of a property on the scheduled day.

"A standard charge for collecting up to three items is £44.00. If you receive at least 80% Council Tax Support, the cost reduces to £34.50. To qualify for this concession, enter your Council Tax Support reference number during your application and upload a copy of your support letter, showing your entitlement.

"Once booked, the collection fee is non-refundable. However, bookings can be amended to change the collection date or items.

“No one needs to be home during collection and those who require assistance can ask a neighbour, friend, or carer for help.”

More information and booking details are available through the the bulky waste service page on the council’s website.
