A woman has sadly died following a serious collision on the B4696 between Brinkworth Road and Lydiard Plain near Royal Wootton Bassett yesterday evening (30/06).

At around 6.05pm, Wiltshire Police responded to a head on collision between an orange Peugeot 107 travelling northbound and a black Vauxhall Astra travelling southbound.

The driver of the Peugeot, a woman in her 70s, was sadly declared dead at the scene. Her next of kin have been informed and our thoughts are with them at this time.

The driver of the Vauxhall, a man aged 43, has been arrested on suspicion of death by dangerous driving and causing death by driving while unfit through drink or drugs.

He has been taken to hospital to be treated for serious injuries and will then be questioned in connection with the incident.

A passenger in the Vauxhall, a teenage girl, was also taken to hospital to be treated for her injuries.

The road was closed for enquiries to take place and has now reopened.

Wiltshire Police have made a mandatory referral to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) due to previous involvement with the suspect.

They are keen to hear from any witnesses or anyone who might have dash cam footage from the area at the time.
