Baby boom increase need for pre-school places

Oliver Tomkins Playgroup, located in an old builders’ hut on the edge of Kiln Park, Toothill, was opened by West Swindon councillor Ricky Midwinter, left, and Canon John Rogan of the Bristol Diocese Board of Social Responsibility.

Linked to Oliver Tomkins Church of England Infants School, the provision was set up to cater for families in need of pre-school facilities. Although the group closed in the late 1990s and the building removed, evidence of the fence around the garden can still be found on the edge of the park close to Hexham Close and Beaumaris Road.
