People in Swindon are being asked to take part in a survey which aims to understand the demand for electric vehicle charging points in the town.
Swindon Borough Council is conducting the survey to find out from local people what they think about electric and hybrid vehicles and what infrastructure needs to be provided in the town to support them.
There has been a significant increase in the number of electric vehicles in recent years with 200,000 likely to be on the UK’s roads by the end of this year. And with demand likely to rise, provision needs to be made for the creation of public charging points.
The short survey is open to all residents whether they currently own an electric car or not.
Councillor Oliver Donachie, Swindon Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Economic Prosperity, said: “We know that an increasing number of people are opting for electric or hybrid cars because they are better for the environment and have the added benefit of being cheaper to run.
“By having more electric vehicles on our roads it would also help to reduce emissions. But we need to ensure we make it as easy as possible for people to choose these environmentally vehicles and ensuring we have the right number of charging points, in the right places, is an important step.”
Councillor Maureen Penny, Swindon Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Highways and the Environment, said: “If we know where people would like to see these charging points it will help to shape future planning applications and will contribute to the Council’s Vision and priority of creating a low-carbon economy.
“The survey will only take a couple of minutes to complete so if you can spare the time please give us your views.”
