A man with a history of threatening and abusive behaviour has been banned from the town centre as a result of an injunction obtained by Swindon Borough Council.
Kevin Peter Wolton is currently serving time at HM Prison Bullingdon in Oxfordshire and is due to be released in early January.
There have been numerous incidents in which Mr Wolton has behaved in an offensive and aggressive manner and the council has taken action to ensure the public continues to be protected when he returns to Swindon.
The injunction means that Mr Wolton will not be allowed to enter the town centre and parts of Old Town for the next two years.
He is, however, still allowed access to various support services based in the town centre, such as the Whalebridge Medical Centre and Swindon Magistrates Court.
The injunction comes as a result of the close working relationship between the council and Wiltshire Police.
If Mr Wolton does not comply with the order, he will be in contempt of court and could be sent back to prison.
The incidents with which he has been involved include fighting, multiple thefts, sexual assault, public drunkenness and the hurling of abuse at members of the public.
PC Paul Bezzant, Wiltshire Police’s Swindon Centre Community Coordinator, said: “We welcome this injunction for a man who has made life miserable for many and the wider community of Swindon.
“We continually work with the council to protect the public from individuals like Wolton and our message is we will continue to target those who feel it’s acceptable to act in an anti-social way in our town.
