In August 1997 the Mayor of Swindon Maurice Fanning visited a summer holiday play day at Lower Shaw Farm and was persuaded by The Link to take his turn on the commando rope in the open air play barn. With some trepidation, the fun-loving fifty year old felt compelled to have a go.
Youngsters also made bread and biscuits, tried pond dipping and willow weaving, played games and met the resident sheep, pigs, ducks and chickens. Families returned in the evening for traditional storytelling around a campfire.
