The South Cerney Army have delivered Easter eggs to all the children currently staying on the Children’s Ward at Great Western Hospital.

Rhys Williams, Gareth Butterworth, Sophie Copperell and Jordan Walker, from the 29 Regiment, delivered chocolate eggs, crayons and soft toys to children aged between 18 months through to teenage years.
Rhys Williams, Postal and Courier Operator, said: “Charity is a big part of the Army. We really wanted to do something to support the children spending time here and just put a smile on their faces.
“Easter can sometimes get forgotten, especially in hospital, so we wanted to deliver chocolate eggs to the children so that they can enjoy this time of year too.
“We never know when we may need to use the Children’s Ward. My child is due to be delivered at Great Western Hospital, and I may need to use the unit in the future. It can be very scary but we were all very keen to support the hospital and brighten up the day for these children.”
One of the children to receive an egg was Eden Sanders. Eden has been in hospital for the last week, following a broken femur.
Jamie Sanders, Eden’s mother, said: “Eden was absolutely thrilled with her Easter egg. Her face lit up when she saw the Army men and women walk into the room and it has made her hospital experience that bit better.
“Eden loves the Army, so this was a really special treat for her.”
The Army were joined by Catherine Newman, Associate Director of Fundraising, as they handed out the goodies. Catherine said: “We are very grateful to the South Cerney Army for this kind delivery.
“It really makes a difference to the children spending time in hospital to receive these treats.”
