Organisers of the North Swindon Fun Day, which was due to take place on August 31, have announced the closure of the event this year.
A statement posted on the North Swindon Community Group Facebook page reads: “It is with regret the North Swindon fun day committee announce that the decision has been made to cancel this year’s event. This is not a decision we have taken lightly, and we would sincerely like to thank everyone who has enquired about either volunteering, performing or taking a trade stand. This year the team has struggled with meeting the necessary regulatory requirements needed to run the event, the lack of volunteers and the low take up for trade stands.
“We remain committed to running the event next year and would like to think the fun day will return even bigger and better than in previous years however it is clear that without further community voluntary and financial support then putting on an event for 2020 will also be a challenge.
“In the five years the event has been running, committee numbers have dwindled to a handful and we desperately need new members to help with the running and organising of the event as well as volunteers to help on the day. We would also be interested to hear about any offers of sponsorship from local companies.”
