Ahead of the school's official opening Swindon Hockey Club tried out their brand-new pitch at The Deanery Academy last week.

Last weekend saw Swindon Hockey Club move to their new home pitch at Witchelstowe's new school, The Deanery Academy.

Junior players from Swindon Hockey Club were the first to try out the club's new home pitch at The Deanery CE Academy in Wichelstowe last week. The U13s mixed teams from Devizes, Royal Wootton Bassett and Corsham joined the Swindon team for their inaugural match in the last leg of the round robin summer league friendlies.

Alan Gough, Development Officer at the hockey club, said: "We have been eagerly awaiting the pitch to be finished and for our move to be completed.

"The anchor partner agreement we have signed with The Deanery will allow Swindon Hockey Club to use the pitch and after match venue on one site. This will allow us to offer more training and playing time, to our existing men's, ladies and junior teams as well as new 'back to hockey' and walking hockey sessions.

"It's a very exciting time for the club as we mark our centenary in the 2019/2020 season."

To celebrate the move to the new pitch, the Club held a Family Fun Day with a full day of hockey for past and present members of the club of all ages.

Michèle Harding, Swindon's Juniors' Coach, said: "It's great to see all the Club players enjoying the new pitch and facilities, especially the boys and girls in our junior teams who are the future of our Club.

“With our new facilities we can offer more hockey to everyone, so parents, friends, family and even work colleagues can come along and join in at our next event at The Deanery which is Hockey Fest on 7 September.  Everyone is welcome."
