Fourteen new adaptable bungalows are now being offered for sale by the Swindon Housing Company.
The new two-bedroom properties in Pilgrim Close, Shaw, are part of Swindon Borough Council’s commercial house building programme which seeks to build new properties for the residents of Swindon, with the income generated from the sales to be used to support existing Council services.
The council say the specialist homes will enable its adult social care teams to support the residents with their independence and daily living.
The properties, which were designed by the Council’s architect, are on sale with a guide price of £280,000 via Charles Harding Estate Agents and are expected to be completed by February 2020.
Councillor Russell Holland, Deputy Leader of Swindon Borough Council and the Cabinet Member for Commercialisation, Education and Skills, said: “I am really pleased we are now able to offer these high quality homes for sale, which will provide an important income stream to support Council services.
“Not only that, but the 14 adaptable bungalows have the added advantage of providing specialist accommodation which will enable people to keep their loved ones closer to them in Swindon.
“Our architect has done a fantastic job in making sure these homes have special features so people can lead independent lives, while also having the capacity for extra equipment to be added if needed in the years ahead as people’s needs change.
“We have already built bungalows of similar quality elsewhere in the Borough and they have proved to be extremely popular so I would encourage anyone who is looking for this type of accommodation, or who may be in the market for one of our new four-bedroom properties in Sparcells, to register their interest with the company’s agents.”
The properties benefit from level floors, high level storage areas, rear-covered patios, off-road parking, adaptable ensuite bathrooms and are wheelchair accessible throughout. The council say further specialist adaptations to the properties can be undertaken in the future to allow for the provision of hoists and other equipment.
The site is adjacent to shops, a doctor’s surgery, post office, church and close to public transport links. As part of the development, the Housing Company will also improve on and provide additional vehicle parking for existing local residents, with the provision of an improved footpath and cycle path link.
The Swindon Housing Company is also developing and marketing six four-bedroom homes in Sparcells Drive, Sparcells, which are also available through Charles Harding, with a guide price of £325,000 each.
