Five people have been arrested following a stabbing in Swindon yesterday (17/01).

We were altered to an incident which happened outside an address in Mattocks Path, East Wichel, at around 3pm yesterday afternoon.

The victim, a man in his 20s, had then arrived at Great Western Hospital with multiple stab wounds to his lower body.

Although he remains in hospital at this time, his injuries are not believed to be life-changing or life-threatening.

Officers carried out enquiries and have since made a number of arrests.

A 17-year-old boy from Swindon has been arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm with intent.

Three 17-year-old boys and one 18-year-old man, all from the local area, have been arrested on suspicion of violent disorder.

They remain in custody at Gablecross Police Station.

Det Sgt Justin Downes, from Swindon CID, said: “This was a nasty assault but luckily does not seem to have caused life-threatening injuries to the victim.

“We have worked swiftly to collect evidence and witness statements and now have five people in custody.

“Our enquiries are at an early stage, but this appears to have been a targeted attack involving people known to each other, so there is no risk to the wider public.

“People in the area are likely to see an increased police presence throughout today as we work on our investigation.”
