Aimed at empowering women to take steps towards better pelvic health, the Urogynaecology Team at Great Western Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is inviting local people to a free talk about common pelvic floor issues, and how to reduce the problems caused by them.

All women will experience at least one of the issues being covered by the talk at some point in their lives. Despite this, pelvic floor issues such as pelvic organ prolapse and urinary problems are often a hidden problem, because so many are too embarrassed to seek help.

Female pelvic health can be affected by a wide range of factors, including childbirth, hormones, aging, diet and other lifestyle choices, so it’s important for women to have a better understanding of their own bodies and learn why they might be experiencing some of these problems.

Although medical treatment is needed sometimes, people can also play an active role in reducing their discomfort or pain, by doing pelvic floor exercises or making lifestyle changes. It is also important for people to know when to seek help and to feel comfortable speaking up, because there is nothing to be embarrassed about and the Trust’s Urogynaecology Team is always here to help.

The team will also be showing attendees a range of products that are used to treat and manage pelvic health issues, such as vaginal pessaries for vaginal wall or pelvic organ prolapse, and Intermittent Self-Catheterisation (ISC) that is used to treat bladders that do not empty fully.

This will be followed by a Q&A session, where attendees can ask the team any questions.

The free talk will be held at 6.00pm on Thursday, 16 January in the Academy at the Great Western Hospital, Marlborough Road, Swindon.

Anyone is welcome to attend and there is no need to register in advance.
