All Swindon households to receive important letter in run up to local elections

Over the next two weeks, all Swindon households will receive a letter containing important information voters will need to make sure they can vote at the local elections on 3 May.

The Household Notification Letter will be sent to all households in Swindon from Thursday (15 March). The letter will provide information on how to register to vote, information on voting methods and important information about the voting identification pilot the Council is taking part in this year.

Voters can choose whether to vote at their local polling station, via a postal vote or via a proxy vote depending on their situation.

It is important that anyone wishing to vote is registered. Residents who do not receive a letter should call 01793 445500 to check if they are registered and to learn more about what ID is needed to vote this year.

It is important to remember that if voting at a polling station, either in person or by proxy, a form of ID will need to be presented before placing a vote. The best and most convenient form of ID is a poll card.

A poll card will be hand delivered to all registered voters in April. This will enable an elector to vote at their polling station. It will contain a barcode that is unique to the individual. Electoral Services Manager, Sally Sprason, said: “It is really important that people look out for this letter as it has important information on the new requirements to vote at this year’s elections. All electors voting in the polling station will need to take their poll card on 3 May.

“We don’t want anyone to not be able to vote so it is important that those who are eligible to vote ensure they are registered and that they also keep hold of their poll card when it is hand delivered in April.”
