A good season for sedum. Toothill Primary School’s eco-roof has blossomed for the fi rst time since the school
opened in September last year. Not only have the children grown in knowledge within the building, a huge
range of insects and butterfl ies have colonised the roof, creating a micro-ecology and contributing to the food
chain. Headteacher Martyn Cowell said, “we are thoroughly delighted with the eco-roof. After a full year’s
growth the children have witnessed a range of colour variations as the specialised sedums have fl owered
with the changing seasons. The roof has literally changed in colour from a vivid yellow in Summer to a deep
red in the Autumn.
