Christmas good wishes
Don’t throw away your Christmas cards
- recycle them and help The Woodland
Trust.
The UK’s leading woodland charity, has
been running the Christmas Card recy-
cling scheme for 13 years.
Money raised so far has enabled the
Trust to:
• plant over 141,000 trees;
• save over 12,000 tonnes of paper from
landfi ll ;
• and stop over 16,000 tonnes of CO2
from going into the atmosphere - the
equivalent to taking more than 5,000 cars
off the road for a year.
To do your bit drop off cards at WH Smith,
TK Maxx and Marks & Spencer during
January.
Thanks to local historian and councillor Steve Wakefi eld for this photo of the old
GWR Swindon Corporation power station at Moredon sitting above the fl ooded
River Ray taken around 1950, from where Sparcells is now. See a video of its
demolition in 1979 at: www.swindonviewpoint.com
The former Midland and Junction Railway Line can be seen in the centre (now
the River Ray Parkway footpath). On the left would be Thamesdown Drive and
Purton Road. The land in the foreground will soon have 200 houses built on it.
Right, fl ooding in the same spot, looking towards Sparcells, in March 2008.
